Vegan erythrulose is a ketone sugar commonly found in raspberries. Erythrulose, like dihydroxyacetone, reacts with the amino acids in the keratin protein on the outer layer of skin. The nontoxic reaction creates a color change in the skin, similar to a cut apple exposed to oxygen, and gives the appearance of an actual sun tan. This tanned effect sloughs away gradually over the course of 3-10 days.

Vegan dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is naturally sourced and derived from sugar beets or cane sugar. DHA creates a more natural-looking tan, and fades more evenly than chemical tanners and is now considered the most effective sunless tanning ingredient.

It’s also considered the safest form of tanning when compared to chemically-derived self-tanners and sun exposure. The tan produced by DHA takes around two to four hours to appear on the skin, and won’t wash away from sweat, water, or soap. The tan from this sunless tanning lotion will fade over the course of 3 to 10 days.

Directions

Prior to applying the self tanner lotion, exfoliate from head to toe and then moisturize dry areas like knees and elbows right after showering.
