From Corporate to Creative: How Glimmer Goddess® Began

Glimmer Goddess® began in 2015 with a small group of handmade skincare products, a lot of research, and a belief that customers deserved to know what was in the products they were putting on their skin. This article originally preserved an interview about our early years. We have rewritten it as a cleaner brand story while keeping the heart of that conversation intact.

Before Glimmer Goddess®

Before starting the company, Shannon and Chris built careers in corporate sales and marketing. Those years taught us how products move from an idea to a customer, how important clear communication is, and how much discipline it takes to keep improving a business.

Skincare, however, had been part of Shannon’s life long before the company existed. Family-made skin preparations and years of making products for herself, friends, and relatives eventually grew into something bigger: the idea that this experience could become a brand.

Starting small in 2015

Glimmer Goddess® launched in January 2015. The early days were hands-on in every sense. Ingredient research, small test batches, labels, photographs, product descriptions, customer messages, packing, and shipping were all part of the daily routine.

Some formulas came together quickly. Others required repeated testing and reformulation. That trial-and-improve mindset became part of how we work: research carefully, make in small batches, listen to customers, and keep refining.

Our first customers shaped the line

We initially sold through Etsy and learned quickly that customers wanted details. They wanted to understand ingredients, texture, scent, how to use a product, and what to realistically expect from it. That feedback helped shape both our product assortment and the way we explain skincare today.

Customer suggestions also helped Glimmer Goddess® grow from a small starting assortment into skin, body, hair, sun-care, tanning, and shimmer categories.

What has stayed the same

Our scale and systems have changed since 2015, but several principles remain central to the brand:

  • Handmade, small-batch production in the USA
  • Vegan and cruelty-free formulas
  • Ingredient transparency
  • No artificial fragrance
  • A focus on practical, enjoyable skincare and body care
  • Listening closely to customer feedback

What we have learned along the way

Building a company rarely looks like a straight line. The early years included long days, failed batches, quiet sales periods, exciting breakthroughs, and plenty of moments where asking for help made the difference. One of the most valuable lessons was that good advice can come from people who are willing to share what they have learned.

That is still the advice we would give another founder: build a plan, stay organized, learn from mistakes, ask questions, and keep improving.

Where Glimmer Goddess® is today

The company continues to grow while staying rooted in the same small-batch mindset that started it. Our products and packaging evolve, our knowledge evolves, and regulations and customer expectations evolve—but the goal remains to create products we are proud to put the Glimmer Goddess® name on.
